Sea Level Rise Mapping & Data Tools

A pilot project with the Town of North Kingstown has compiled and studied a large amount of data important for understanding sea level rise at the local level. Out of this effort have come new planning tools for government, community, and the private sector to use as they collaboratively make decisions about how to protect people and property as the ocean rises:

Statewide Digital Elevation and Bathymetry Data Tool for Sea Level Rise Planning

arch_gis   The data featured here provide communities with a sound basis from which to start understanding and addressing the local impacts of sea level rise. A rich collection of data has enabled the creation of accurate high resolution maps and detailed scenarios to assist with planning for sea level rise. Note: Sea level rise scenarios indicated on the maps do not account for storm surges, which could increase sea level ranges as much as 10 feet, as in the 1938 hurricane. Maps are for planning purposes only (caveats).

Sea Level Affecting Marshes Model (SLAMM)

SLAMM MapMarshes support wildlife as well as fish nurseries for the local seafood industry. Sea level rise threatens these habitats, so the SLAMM—Sea Level Affecting Marshes Model—is a tool for decision makers and resources managers to use in planning how to protect and use marshes in the future when flooding and change becomes an issue.
